Today is the last day of the dog days and usually during the dog days it is hot and dry. But for the most part this year it was the opposite.
Yesterday around noon, clouds moved in from the west and in a short time there were strong winds and heavy rains. In about 20 minutes, the area received 1 to 2 inches and wind damage. At Lonnie Shrocks, there were a lot of large tree limbs down blocking the driveway and damage to the house and shop. Also a power line pole broke off just north of them at Hwy P and 190 and power lines down. The town of Jamesport was still out of power in the evening at 10:30. After the storm hit, the Jamesport Grocery and the bank were closed for the rest of the day. At David Mast’s it also took the plastic off of their green house.
Kevin Stutzman (Joseph) sprained a ligament real bad in his ankle while playing basketball and will be laid up for 6 weeks.

Robert Schrocks and Ferman Hostetlers also made a stop in Charolotte, MI.
Those that were to Irvington, KY to attend a Hostetler reunion were Mose Grabers, Eli Hostetler, Lavern Beechys and Barbara Kurtz (Levi).
Steven Gingerichs are the parents of a boy named Chester Eli born on Aug. 4. Grandparents are Eli Kauffmans and Mrs. Wilma Sue Gingerich.
Sam Millers and family of Redding, IA spent Fri. and Sat. at Jonas’s and Raymond Masts.
Lavern Schrock (Edward) of Clarita, OK was a visitor in N.W. church on Sun. at Chris Gingerichs. Lavern is staying at his bro. Larrys for the next several months. North church had baptismal services on Sun. at Lavern Shrocks for Sharon Shrock (Lonnie). N.C.C. church had baptismal services at Alvin Detweilers for Kevin Stutzman (Joseph), Eddie and Betty Kauffman (Eli). Published to be married on Oct. 1 are Glen Gingerich (Betty) and Rosanna Schrock (Dennis).
Mrs. Freeman A. Detweiler was picking green beans in their garden when she heard this buzzing sound and looking around she discovered a rattle snake. The men weren’t home at the time and with all the customers that stop at their Farm Supply any hour of the day there was no one to come to her rescue. But she was determined this unwelcome visitor would not be loose in her garden. So she went and got a hoe and when she came back the snake was gone. This can make a person imagine things and hardly wanting to take a step. But soon she could hear the buzzing sound again in the asparagus patch. A couple whacks of the hoe turned the buzzer off and it had seven rattlers. I didn’t get a length measurement from anyone.
N.C.C. church to be at Johnny Detweilers on Aug. 23, N.W, at Chris Gingerichs, W. at Henry Rabers and N. at Neal Gingerichs.
