Steve Stout Retires from U.S. Postal Service

Steve Stout of Jamesport, is shown with a certificate and plaque he received from the United States Postal Service when he retired on Thursday, July 31st. He received the Million Mile plaque and certificate for 30 years of service from the U.S. Postal Service.
Steve began his postal career in 1982 as a substitute, then went to work full time in May 1990 at the Jamesport office. He carried Route 3 and after Bill Dixon retired, he carried the Route 1 route. Being a rural carrier took him into 4 counties - Daviess, Grundy, Livingston, and Harrison.
After a major change in the postal system, Steve carried mail out of the Trenton office where he has continued until his retirement.
Most mail carriers have stories of unusual happenings along the way and most are weather related. At one time, Steve and fellow carriers met the mail truck, who had got stuck in the snow, just south of town. The carriers went through the park and the Trimble property to transfer mail to their vehicles, so the mail could be delivered on time.
He has worked under several post masters during his tenure in the postal service. Some of them are Carl Wiles, Cathy Bowe at Jamesport and Rob Cracraft at Trenton. There have also been several “officers in charge” at the two post offices Steve has worked along side as well as, long time clerk, Ruthvernelle Harrington.
Steve said he has 30 years of projects to catch up on during his retirement, and he will continue to have coffee with his mother, Rosemary Stout, each morning.
Attending the retirement presentation was Steve’s wife, Nichole and grandson, Liam Bunch.
Steve sends a special thanks to all his postal customers and friends for his years as a rural carrier.
